Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
My daughter is 10 months old. When she was five months old, her pediatrician suggested Ostocalcium per day and one Cholecalciferol IP 60000 IU granules per month, from five month to 12 month of age that means eight dosages in eight month. Now my questions are, My wife, who is having history of kidney stone, is taking calcium tablet 500 mg and she is feeding breast milk to baby. Is it safe for my baby to give Ostocalcium and Cholecalciferol IP 60000 IU granules per month? Or will it make any problem for kidney or any other complication? Is it mandatory to give? Can I stop it now as we completed six month of dosage as of today?
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
These calcium and vitamin D supplements are important to combat vitamin D deficiency that is important for our growing bones. You can stop Cholecalciferol sachets but continue Calcium in the form of Ostocalcium or whatever you are giving. Take other precautions for example sunbath for adequate synthesis of vitamin D. It is safe in normal doses, but may lead to toxicity if given in excess for longer time. So, stop Cholecalciferol sachet of 60000. We can check vitamin D level also to detect if it is under optimal level, whether it is adequate, excess or insufficient.
I hope this helps.
Thank you and take care.
Regards.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I just wanted to confirm, Is Ostocalcium only enough as a supplement?
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Yes, it is enough. Please ensure it contains 800 unit of vitamin D in a day. This much of vitamin D is necessary for optimal growth.
