Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 19-year-old girl, weighing 150 lbs. Five days ago, I had my wisdom teeth removed, and I am still experiencing severe pain. I have been taking Hydrocodone and Ibuprofen, but they do not provide relief. I have tried using ice packs and salt rinses, but nothing seems to help. Every morning when I wake up, I experience excruciating pain in my jaw, which radiates throughout my entire face. The pain persists and does not go away because of which I can not even eat or sleep. Is it a dry socket? But my blood clot is still intact. Additionally, I have not eaten any food that could have gotten lodged in the extraction site. I am concerned that I have nerve damage. Why am I still experiencing such intense pain after five days? Kindly help.

Hello,

I am delighted you turned to icliniq.com with your medical-related questions.

I can certainly relate to your worry, and I will do my best to assist. Firstly, I would like to inform you that experiencing pain after five days of wisdom tooth extraction is not uncommon. However, if the pain is not improving, it could indicate either an infection at the extraction site or a nerve injury. To determine the exact cause, I suggest you undergo a clinical examination and an X-ray. In the meantime, you can consider taking more potent painkillers like Ketorolac or Tramadol. I suggest you consult an oral surgeon who can assess your condition and take medications with their consent. And also, I suggest you start eating soft foods to prevent hunger and avoid relying solely on fluids. I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
