Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 21 year old female. I am seven weeks and two days pregnant today. I woke up this morning bleeding. It has been constant as if I were on my period. I called my doctor, but got no response. I do not know if I should go to the ER or not.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

If the bleeding is severe, as in your periods, then it is not a good sign. You will have to meet your doctor immediately. I hope you had a scan at six weeks. That is when you can see the baby and the first heart beat. In this scan, the location of pregnancy, number of pregnancy, any hematoma inside the uterus and the decidual reaction of the baby is noted. If all of this had been done and found to be normal, then hopefully this episode of bleeding is not very significant, especially if the blood is brown or darker in color. This can be the implantation bleeding.

This will get resolved on its own.You will need to increase the dose of Progesterone such as tablet Duphastone one tablet thrice a day. This will reduce the bleeding. If this scan has not been done, the health of the fetus has not been confirmed. If you are not able to get the assistance of the doctor, just have the tablet Duphaston 10 mg one tablet thrice a day till you get help. Then after an examination and scan, the doctor can tell you further. You can have this tablet without any fear. It is available world wide in the same name. It is Dydrogesterone, a progesterone, which can stop small bleeding and relax the uterus. It has no side effects on you or the baby.

I hope I have clarified your query. Do write back if you have any more queries.

All the best.
