Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 28-year-old female. Recently I went through dilated retinal examination. In my left eye, there is a spot on retina since birth. I do not have any problem with the vision at present. I am myopic since 12 years old. I have attached my current myopic number. My doctor told me at present there is nothing to worry. But in future, he warned me that if I start getting flashes of light or too many black spots in vision then I have to consult him immediately. He will deal my spot through laser. Now, what are the chances that this spot may grow in future? Will it be treatable? Also, I have a dry eyes problem for two to three months. For last two years, I am undergoing treatment for TB. I take Duonase nasal spray two times.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The spot that you have mentioned is called a lattice which is basically an area of weakening in the retina. If you have no history of any retinal disease in other eye or in any family members then doctors usually observe your symptoms. They occur when this lattice converts into a break or about to convert into a break then we can seal it off with a laser. Till then you have to be in follow up and visit your ophthalmologist every six months or so. Refrain from doing chronic heavy lifting like going to the gym. You can do your daily household or office work without any worry. Normally there are about 20 percent chances that break will develop but in my practice, I have seen it be even less than that.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

What other preventive measures can I take in my life to stop the growth of that spot? I mean any special vitamins or minerals do you recommend?

Answered by Dr. Rahul Vaswani

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As I told you do not engage in activities involving chronic weightlifting like going to the gym, etc. And if possible avoid contact sports like football. Rest you can lead a normal life.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
