Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had sexual contact with a sex worker for the first time. However, I am worried about contracting a viral infection like HPV or HIV. I have been experiencing fatigue and mild fever for the past few days. Should I get tested?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

If you are concerned about the possibility of contracting a sexually transmitted infection (STI), it is always a good idea to get tested. However, HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) and some other sexually transmitted diseases can take some time to show up on a test. For instance, HIV antibodies may take up to three months to appear in the blood after exposure. So, it may be too early to get an accurate result for this particular infection.

Regarding your symptoms of fatigue and mild fever, they could occur due to many factors, including anxiety, stress, or a mild viral infection unrelated to STIs. However, I suggest you get yourself tested and consult a specialist in person.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
