Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 18 years old. I have not been to the dentist in the last seven years. I have three decayed teeth in my mouth. Right above one of them on the outside of my gum a little red patch popped up and then it started to decay. On the other side, that is, on the inside of the gum right above my tooth a red spot popped up with a white border. I am very scared, and I am terrified of cancer. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

First of all, I would like to advise you not to panic relating it to cancer. I saw the picture you sent me (attachment removed to protect patient identity). It is the remnants of your tooth, which is left behind the gums. Your first molar has decayed so much that there is no tooth structure left behind to do fillings. Massive decay leads to dead tooth and therefore, no pain. The last option is to remove the leftover roots stuck in the gums and go for a prosthesis. Do not ignore as of to get the remnants removed because that is an important tooth used for chewing at the back. Since you are young, you have to get it replaced for an efficient function for the next many years. There is nothing to worry about the redness around as it will fade away once the gums heal.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
