Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I underwent a hip bone scan, and I have attached the photos for your reference. Kindly go through it and let me know if there is an issue.

Thank you.

Answered by Dr. Ruchi Sharma

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

So I went through the scan reports of your hip bone, and I can see no obvious fractures (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). I say no obvious fractures because my observations are based solely upon the quality of the images provided to me. Also, I observed that you had not provided any clinical history or additional information like any other investigations that could have helped me correlate the imaging findings.

I hope this helps.

Kindly follow up with the details.

Take care.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

I had a suspected stress fracture on my left hip. And I have been having pain in that region for the past two weeks. What to do?

Please suggest.

Answered by Dr. Ruchi Sharma

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thank you for providing a brief clinical history.

If you are symptomatic (having pain), I suggest you go for an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) of the hip because it is the best imaging technique to rule out subtle fractures that might be missed on other tests. Also, MRI shows structures in and around the joint that might be involved due to post-traumatic inflammation. The cause of pain in stress fractures is not the fracture itself but the inflamed periosteum and soft tissues around the joint. A bone scan will not reveal these in detail as an MRI would.

I hope this helps.

Take care.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
