Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have struggled with mild weakness in one leg and pain in both hands and body for the last seven months. Sometimes my fingers freeze, and my left eyelid also twinges whenever I touch or tightly close my eye. I am also getting lower back pain. I did a blood test and scan of my spinal and NCV and everything came fine except my vitamin B12 level (136 pg/mL) and vitamin D level (28 ng/mL).
I am taking vitamin supplements, but my problem still exists. I doubt it may be the initial form of MND. I am really worried about that. I consulted a neurosurgeon for EMG, but he denied saying I do not have clinical weakness. But I can feel mild weakness in my left leg.
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I agree with your doctor that your symptoms do not suggest motor neuron disease (MND). Pain is atypical of this disorder.
I hope it helps.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
I have done a spinal MRI and NCV four-limb test, and all my reports are clear. I have normal reflexes. When my doctor tapped my legs, I got jerked, but not much. He said it was normal. It feels tight in my lower back; whenever I walk, my leg starts to pain quickly, and my fingers pain when I work. My fingers go mildly stiff for some time and come back to normal.
My left eyelid twitches if I touch it. I get back pain, sometimes burning sensations if I sit in front of my computer for a long time. I cannot do my regular work properly because of this. Sometimes I also get some sound in my left ear along with the above syndrome.
I hope it helps.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I suggest you check your thyroid hormone levels to exclude possible thyroid gland dysfunction. A brain MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is necessary. You can exclude motor neuron disease because your symptoms are not typical of this disorder. If all these test results are normal, I suggest fibromyalgia as a possible cause of your symptoms.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
I did a thyroid test, which came back normal, while my brain MRI is still pending. My right-hand palm started to twitch, and my left eyelid did even when I was relaxed.
Does fibromyalgia cause twitching?
I have mild pain because my muscles ache if I work.
Kindly suggest.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Twitching is not a common sign in fibromyalgia, but it can be due to vitamin D deficiency. A brain MRI is also necessary. If all your test results are normal, you should also consider benign fasciculation syndrome, a syndrome associated with persistent fasciculations without any underlying cause.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
