Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have severe bloating, indigestion, and acid reflux attacks. It feels like a big break is in my stomach that will not digest. I get stomach convulsions, and the only thing that gives me some relief is a hot bath and ginger. I have pressure in my head, and I get lightheaded and dizzy that I am gonna faint. What is wrong with me?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Indigestion is a common thing to happen to anybody in a lifetime. Your current body weight seems the main trigger for your symptoms. When the abdominal fat is excess, it compresses the stomach and small bowel, which are gas-filled organs. They can be easily compressed by external pressure and belly fat. You forgot to mention for how long you have these symptoms? Secondly, I want to know few more things. Have you changed your diet plan and gained weight recently? And did you feel changing diet has triggered your symptoms? Have you ever checked for diabetes and cholesterol levels in the blood? Any recent history of alcohol consumption, smoking, gastroenteritis, use of antibiotics, or over-the-counter prescription? Do you commonly feel these symptoms of indigestion after taking meals? How do you feel when you are on an empty stomach? Are there any past history of abdominal surgeries?

The Probable causes

Functional dyspepsia, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, functional gas, and bloating.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I have these symptoms for a few years. It started out with shortness of breath that would usually go away. I have stomach convulsion, pressure in the chest, shortness of breath, dizziness. I feel intense pressure in my stomach and lots of gurgling. These symptoms usually go away after an hour or two but come back a few hours after eating. I have not gained weight but lost thirty pounds in the last year. I have no diabetes, and my cholesterol is moderately high. I recently took an anti-biotic for what the doctor said. On an empty stomach, I feel like I have a lot of acid reflux.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Your symptoms highly seem to be due to postprandial distress syndrome (PPDS). This is a condition of significant slowing of the stomach after meals which may or may not have any cause. If you have been tested for diabetes via a blood test like fasting blood sugar, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and cholesterol, kindly upload all tests. Also, if you have any ultrasound of the abdomen, that would be very great.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
