Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had sex with a girl whose health status was unknown. I was using two condoms during intercourse. She had an orgasm. I am feeling anxious about getting an infection of HIV(Human Immunodeficiency virus) and other STDs(Sexually Transmitted Diseases) because it is my first experience. I have read about PEP (Post-exposure Prophylaxis) from the internet. What do you think I should do?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thanks for writing in, and I understand your concern. If the condom was used in a proper manner then the chances of transmission of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) by single protected intercourse with an HIV-positive person is nil. If any doubt about HIV status or condom failure then you may need post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). PEP has to be initiated as early as possible not later than 72 hours of exposure. If she is HIV negative there is no chance of transmission. You can consult your doctor for risk assessment and need for PEP.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your response.

I have no idea about her health status, and I have used two condoms properly. Instead, I am too anxious. Should I go for PEP?

Regards.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

In my opinion, if the condom was intact and there was no contact with any secretions, then there may not be any need for PEP. You can consult your doctor and discuss in detail about PEP.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
