Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 9 months pregnant. My TSH value is 3.17; the reference value is 0.30 - 5.5. The pregnancy refers range is 0.30 - 3.00. Is this normal? I am worried about my baby. Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
The ideal thyroid stimulating hormone - TSH level in pregnancy should be below 2.5 in the first trimester and below 3 in the second and third trimesters. This level is especially important for the first trimester as, at this period, any low thyroid level might cause fetal brain damage. You are now nine months pregnant and devoid of that risk. But, the TSH value should be below 3 to avoid any complications. The value of 3.17 is just borderline, and there are no such major risks. I suggest starting Levothyroxine tablet 25 mcg per day and rechecking the value after four to six weeks.
