Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I noticed some red dots on my body and face last week. They were itchy but did not hurt. Also, a few days ago, I had one big dot on my penis, which also had a rash around it. I am planning to see a doctor next week. What could it be, and do I need to go to a dermatologist? Please suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query, understand your concern, and examined the picture you sent me (attachment removed to protect the patient' s identity).

It seems you have developed scabies. Rashes of scabies characteristically involve the shafts of the penis, with itching more during night hours. I suggest you use 5 % Permethrin cream once a day and apply it below the neck and all over the body. Leave it over night, then take a bath during the morning and wash all your used clothes thoroughly. Also, take tablet Ivermectin 12 mg single dose on the same day after consulting your general practitioner. Itching may persist for a few weeks. I suggest you take tablet Levocetirizine once daily from the next day of application for seven days. And also, use HH mite (Permethrin) soap for bathing.

I hope this helps.

Regards.
