Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 21 years old male. My weight is 231.48 Ibs, and my height is 6'3". I have done a blood test recently, and I have a B12 of 156 pg/mL. My nail (light black with dark longitudinal lines) looks darker than usual. My doctor suggests me an injection therapy. But I am willing to have some tablets. Please say your kind opinion.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the attachment (attachment removed to protect patient identity). As per the laboratory report, you have a deficiency of vitamin B12. Vitamin B12 is an essential vitamin required for the normal functioning of the body organs especially the nervous system. You have a hemoglobin of 16 g/dL. In B12 deficiency, you can usually see anemia (low hemoglobin).

Vitamin B12 is replaced either by oral supplements or through B12 injection. Injections will help you to replenish quickly, and oral supplements take a long time. If you have any symptoms due to B12 deficiency, it is better to have an injection or oral supplements. You should take oral supplements regularly and for a long time for at least a year. Finding the reasons for B12 deficiency is essential. Your doctor can tell you the reason through proper history and examination.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
