About "Blood cancer"
Blood cancers affect the production and function of the blood cells. These cancers usually begin in the bone marrow, where the blood cells are produced. The three main types of blood cancers are:
- Leukemia – Caused by rapid production of abnormal white blood cells.
- Lymphoma – Here, abnormal lymphocytes become lymphoma cells, which gets collected in the lymph nodes.
- Myeloma – It is the cancer of the plasma cells.
In most blood cancers, the uncontrolled growth of an abnormal type of blood cells interrupts healthy blood cell development. As the number of abnormal cells increases, it prevents the normal function of blood cells like clotting and fighting infections.
