Newly Diagnosed Diabetes With Neuropathic Symptoms (Endocrinology)

Dr. Nayan Wale., BAMS

Medical Case Details:

A 45-year-old female presented with complaints of giddiness, reduced appetite, and a burning sensation in both lower limbs. On evaluation, her random blood sugar was found to be 355 mg/dL, and she was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus for the first time. Her vital signs were stable, and there were no features suggestive of an acute diabetic emergency. As this was a newly detected case with symptoms suggestive of early neuropathy, further workup including HbA1c and baseline investigations was planned. Lifestyle modification, dietary counseling, and initiation of appropriate antidiabetic therapy were advised. Inputs are welcome regarding the choice of initial therapy and early management of neuropathic symptoms in newly diagnosed diabetes.
