Had a male patient aged around 70 years with HCC. He had ascitis and tenderness. He started complaining of reduced appetite, decreased strength and difficulty in mobility.
A GP had suggested IV fluids which he was advised to take at home.
This patient is already on fluid overload. Though there is a drain draining the ascitic fluid, but utilising a pint of NS might not help his complaints of reduced energy and reduced appetite.
Good to have solid food if the patient is stable.
