Medical Case Details:
Symptoms - A 65-year-old female complaining about burning sensation on the left side of the face. Primarily around the upper lip area, tip of the nose, and tip of the tongue. The patient has also complained about a loss of taste intermittently.
History - The patient is hypertensive with hyperthyroidism. Just before this burning sensation problem, she had reported highly swollen parotid glands on both sides of the face. More affected on the left side of the face. She took antibiotics after consulting ENT, and swelling subsided.
Medication For burning sensation on the face - The patient was given anti-inflammatory drugs - Rabegan TDS and Ebast MC OD for 15 days, but the pain has not subsided completely. I am also suspecting this as a case of trigeminal neuralgia. So have advised her to consult a neurologist. MRI scans were done but have not reported anything significant. Small microbleeds and mild generalized cerebral atrophy with Flair hyperintensities. The patient has started taking mazetol 100mg now, but the burning sensation keeps coming back. Is it a case of trigeminal neuralgia, or could it be something else? Does parotid swelling have a role to play here? What shall be the line of treatment?
