Mastocytosis

Dr. Ayesha Khanum., MBBS, FCPS HEMATOLOGY

Medical Case Details:

Hi, my 12-year-old patient has skin lesions with brownish-red papules, and a bone marrow examination shows cells resembling macrophages. Could this be systemic mastocytosis? What tests can I perform to confirm the diagnosis?

Systemic mastocytosis will present with some symptoms like diarrhoea, urticaria, angioedema etc, cutaneous mastocytosis is more common than systemic mastocytosis , Please refer to WHO criteria for systemic mastocytosis if you have high index of suspicion.

Tests : serum tryptase levels , bone marrow (already done in this case ) ,special stains & immunohistochemistry
