ADEM is known as acute disseminated encephalomyelitis. It is a rare condition having inflammation in the brain and spinal cord due to damage of myelin. It often occurs in children. It usually occurs after bacterial or viral infection. The symptoms are nausea, vomiting, confusion, weakness, seizures, ataxia, and optic neuritis. High-dose intravenous corticosteroids are the first line of treatment for ADEM.
