About "Heart Valve"

The thin membrane that is attached to the heart wall, which helps the blood flow in one direction in the heart is called a heart valve. There are four valves present in the heart, which open and close as the heart beats. When the valve opens, blood moves from one chamber of the heart to another. The four heart valves are:

  1. Two atrioventricular (AV) valves – Mitral valve (bicuspid valve) and tricuspid valve, present between the upper and lower chambers of the heart.
  2. Two semilunar (SL) valves – Aortic valve and pulmonary valve, present in the arteries exiting the heart.
