Fertility assessment is done by physically examining both partners, and by taking a complete medical and sexual histories. After the initial examination, a semen analysis is done in men, which checks the quality, quantity, and motility of sperm. And in women, blood test and ultrasound are done to check for ovulation. If the ovulation is normal, then the doctor will take an X-ray of the fallopian tubes and uterus known as hysterosalpingogram. They also look for other conditions like uterine or ovarian cyst, tumor, fibroid, endometriosis, and congenital abnormalities. They also see the follicle population in the ovaries. Other tests done are to check how the sperm and egg interact and to see if the woman is developing antibodies to the sperm.
