Yellowish discoloration of the skin and sclera due to increased levels of bilirubin is called jaundice or icterus. The levels of bilirubin increase due to some problem in the liver. People with jaundice also experience symptoms like pale stools, dark urine, and itching. The other symptoms include tiredness, stomach pain, weight loss, fever, and vomiting. Some of the conditions that may cause jaundice are inflammation of the liver (hepatitis), inflammation or obstruction of the bile duct, hemolytic anemia, Gilbert’s syndrome, and cholestasis.
