About "spinal cord tumor"

The spinal cord is the tube that runs from the base of the brain to the end of your spine. A tumor can grow in any part of this cord, which is called a spinal cord tumor or intradural tumor. The two types of spinal tumor are:

  1. Intramedullary tumor – The tumor originates in the cells within the spinal cord. Examples are gliomas and astrocytomas.
  2. Extramedullary tumor – The tumor originates in the membrane surrounding the cord or its nerve roots. Examples are meningiomas and neurofibromas.

The common symptoms include pain at the site of the tumor, radiating back pain, difficulty walking, and muscle weakness.
