Newborns are very vulnerable to diseases, but most of them resolve as the baby grows and adjusts to the new environment. The most common diseases seen in infants are birth injuries, jaundice, colic, abdominal distention, bluish skin, apnea, vomiting, cough, respiratory problems, anemia, fever, skin rashes, oral thrush, cold and flu, and diarrhea. As this is the time they learn how to breathe and feed, the organs grow, and they learn to coordinate, any illness can affect the infant's growth and development. Most of these diseases are not serious, but it is important to know the warning signs and things you need to do.
