About "Syphilis"
Syphilis is an infection caused by the bacteria Treponema pallidum, which spreads through sexual contact. This infection has four stages, and the symptoms experienced in each phase are:
- Primary syphilis – Starts after 3 to 4 weeks of exposure. Causes painless round sore on the vagina, anus, rectum, lips, or mouth.
- Secondary syphilis – Non-itchy rashes on the trunk, genital or oral warts, fever, sore throat, weight loss, fatigue.
- Latent syphilis – No symptoms.
- Tertiary syphilis – It when the bacteria affect the brain, nerves, eyes, blood vessels, bones, and joints.
Penicillin is commonly used to treat syphilis during the early stages.
