Echopraxia is the involuntary repetition or mirroring of another person’s actions or movements. Echopraxia is often also referred to as echokinesis. It can be a sign of several mental disorders including schizophrenia, Tourette syndrome, aphasia, etc. The exact cause as to why a patient presents with echopraxia is unknown and the link between these mental conditions and echopraxia is also undetermined. Young children often repeat other people’s actions but when this happens after the age of five, a diagnosis of some underlying mental condition should be considered.
