A collection of infected and pus cells in the brain tissue is called a brain abscess. It develops in response to an infection or trauma. It is a potentially life-threatening condition and commonly affects men under 30 years and newborns. The symptoms include headache, fever, nausea, vomiting, and seizure. In severe cases, it can lead to drowsiness, confusion, irritability, stiff neck, blurred vision, speech problems, and coma. An abscess results from a bacterial, fungal, or parasitic brain infection. It can also infect the brain through blood, ear, and traumatic head injury. If the abscess is big, then it has to be drained, aspirated, or cut out.
