Ayurvedic treatment for partial ACL tear and bucket-handle tear of the medial meniscus.

Medical Case Details:

I am looking for Ayurvedic treatment for partial ACL tear and bucket-handle tear of the medial meniscus. The patient has mild swelling and pain all over the left knee area. The complaint includes trouble standing for a long time, unable to put pressure on the left leg, and pain and stiffness in the knee if stands for longer than 20 minutes. He can walk properly, but constant and longer walk causes stiffness in the knee. The patient has been using knee belt and applying anti-inflammatory ointment at the site of pain and swelling. The patient recently got an MRI for the left knee. The findings are: Reduced size of the body, anterior and posterior horn of the medial meniscus with a displaced meniscal fragment seen in the medial aspect of the intercondylar notch, suggestive of bucket-handle tear of the medial meniscus. Retraction of posterolateral fibers of anterior cruciate ligament, indicative of a partial tear of ACL. What are the possible Ayurvedic treatment options for this?

I would recommend send pt to orthopedic surgeon for possible arthoscopic repair, medication, topical or excercises alone dont have much role in minscal or tendon injuries.

Acl tear is a trauma .. we cannot treat it. conservatively .. unless its a grade 1 injury . or an gediatric patient. the treatment of choice is arthroscopic acl reconstruction using hamstring graft. followed by rigorous physiotherapy .

Hello Doctor,

Sending the patient to the orthopedist will be of good choice as the ligament is torn and needs fixation. Leaving it like that may either damage the joint or in long run land up the patient in the OA . A surgical intervention is what I feel will be of the best choice for the patient rather making him get into trouble more. Since there is no conservative management and only a surgical management is there it's advised to look for the best possible available solution for the patient. Patient will be put on to physiotherapy post surgery to get the maximum outcome of overall well being.

Hello doctor,
recently got the chance to treat the same condition.
with proper correction in routine, and local blood letting helped the patient to resolve the pain. further internal medication as per bhagna treatment has given further improvement in movements. the case is still under treatment. will let you the final result.
but yes Ayurveda has helped this patient within a month to get relief symptomatically.
