Hemiplegia

Hemiplegia is paralysis of one side of the body due to an injury or damage to the spinal cord or brain. It is characterized by loss of muscle function and control, muscle fatigue, and stiffness on the affected side. Facial, contralateral, spastic, spinal, and alternating are the types of hemiplegia. Causes include stroke, infection or injury, or tumor in the brain, and genetic causes. Treatment includes physiotherapy, assistive devices, mental imagery, modified constraint-induced movement therapy, and electrical stimulation.
