Hordeolum

Hordeolum is also known as stye in common terms. It is a common acute focal infection of the eyelid characterized by pain, redness, and swelling on the edge of the eyelid. It is most commonly caused by the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. The most common symptoms are pain, swelling, redness of the eyelid, high sensitivity to light, discomfort in the eyes, and tearing and crusting of the eyes. Antibiotic creams or ointments are prescribed.
