OSMF stands for oral submucous fibrosis. It is a precancerous condition where inflammation and fibrosis of submucosal tissues occur. It is often caused due to betel chewing and leads to squamous cell carcinoma on increased tobacco consumption. The symptoms are pain, inability to open mouth, increased salivation, and burning sensation on the consumption of spicy foods. It is treated by taking medications containing dietary supplements, anti-inflammatory agents, and proteolytic agents.
