Regurgitation

When the stomach contents like digestive juices and some undigested food return to the mouth through the esophagus, it is known as regurgitation. It mostly happens in gastroesophageal reflux disease, acid reflux, rumination, pregnancy, certain medications, bulimia, etc. It causes heartburn, irritated throat, sour and bitter taste in the mouth, feeling of something stuck in the throat, etc. Treatment is with medications like antacids, proton pump inhibitors, and H2 blockers.
