Sphincter Of Oddi Dysfunction

The sphincter of Oddi is a muscle that empties and closes to let bile and pancreatic juice stream between the pancreas and the small intestine. In the sphincter of Oddi dysfunction, the sphincter muscle does not empty at times, which results in a blockage of digestive juices and intense distress in the abdomen. This treatment is usually done with medications or a procedure known as sphincterotomy.
