Tracheostomy Tube Selection

A Tracheostomy tube has to be selected according to the outer diameter, inner diameter, and length of the tube. A 10 mm outer diameter tube is used for adult women, and an 11 mm outer diameter tube is appropriate for adult men. Tracheostomy is given for a patient to bypass an obstructed upper airway, clear secretions from the airway, and deliver oxygen to the lungs.
