Alprazolam, sold under the brand name Alprax belongs to the benzodiazepine class of drugs. Alprax is a psychoactive drug; therefore, it alters brain activity and helps in calming down. The drug is commonly used to treat conditions like anxiety and panic attacks. However, the drug has several side effects, and the most common side effect is drowsiness, lightheadedness, and sleepiness. Therefore, the drug should be taken under the doctor’s advice, and the course should be completed. In addition, sudden cessation of the drug can cause withdrawal symptoms like anxiety and nausea.
