Anal Sphincter Tear

As a result of rectal or anal surgery, rectal trauma, or obstetrical trauma, sphincter muscles surrounding the anal canal are damaged, causing anal sphincter tear. It results in accidental bowel leakage. A complete history of the patient along with physical examination helps in diagnosing the anal sphincter tear injury. It can be treated by surgical repair, biofeedback therapy, and sacral nerve stimulation.
