Birth asphyxia is a condition that occurs when the baby's brain and other organs do not get enough oxygen and other nutrients before, during, and after birth. Without oxygen and nutrients, cells are unable to work properly. Therefore the waste can get accumulated in the cells and cause damage. The symptoms are drowning, asthma, choking, and loss of consciousness. Mild cases of birth asphyxia are treated by giving immediate breathing support. In severe cases, the baby may require a breathing machine, respiratory therapy fluids, and medicine to control blood pressure.
