Bone Erosion

Bone erosion is characterized by the loss of bone in certain parts of the body. It is one of the key features of rheumatoid arthritis. The cause of bone erosion is chronic inflammation because chronic inflammation stimulates the production of osteoclasts (the cells that break down the bone tissue), leading to bone resorption. Bone erosion can also occur when there are a number of inflammatory cytokines in the body.
