Branchial Cyst

A branchial cyst, also known as the branchial cleft cyst, is a swelling seen in the front portion of the neck. Sometimes it is connected to the outer skin with a fistula as well. It is essentially a birth defect formed during the developing phase of the child inside the womb. All parts of the body are essentially derived from the branchial arches. When it fails to fuse in the neck region, a cyst may be formed in that region. It may need surgical correction and removal of the cyst.
