Budd-chiari Syndrome

Budd-Chiari syndrome is a condition where there is blockage or narrowing of the hepatic veins caused by blood clots. Polycythemia, thrombocythemia, sickle cell disease, pregnancy, etc., are the causes for Budd-Chiari syndrome. Ascites, jaundice, enlarged liver, tenderness of the liver, etc., are the symptoms of this syndrome. Treatment is done with blood-thinning drugs to dissolve clots, transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty, etc.
