Dangerous Area Of Face

Dangerous area of the face includes upper lip, the lower part of the nose, and its adjacent areas. It acquired the name due to the dangers these boils, nose infections, and injuries surrounding it cause to the brain. Valveless anterior facial vein, high anastomoses, and absence of deep fascia allow the retrograde infection to spread. The infection readily spreads to the cavernous sinus resulting in cavernous sinus thrombosis (CST). CST is of sudden onset with high rates of morbidity and mortality. Fortunately, the incidence of CST has been significantly decreased with the entry of effective antimicrobial agents.
