Dermatitis artefacta refers to the condition in which the lesions are self-inflicted. This disorder is classified as a primary psychiatric disorder in which the patients consciously create lesions in the skin, mucosa, hair, or nails. The patients do so to satisfy their psychological needs, which is the need to be noticed or to receive care.
