Spinal headache is caused by leakage of cerebrospinal fluid due to decreased pressure in CSF. Spinal tap usually might result in leakage through-hole, and to stop this leakage epidural blood patch is given. A small amount of blood is injected into the epidural space near the opening, from where the leakage is happening. This blood forms a clot to seal the hole and stops leakage.
