Hip Bursectomy

The hip joint is similar to the ball-and-socket joint. The hip bursa consists of fluid that lubricates joints, and the bursa must be drained or removed. With a complete hip bursectomy, the physician removes the ball from the femur and the metal. Degenerated cartilage is removed from the socket, and metal is placed so that the new ball moves freely.
