Thus, listeriosis occurs due to eating contaminated foods. The common symptoms of listeriosis are fever, nausea, diarrhea, and muscle cramps. In severe cases, they cause confusion, convulsions, changes in alertness, bacterial meningitis, endocarditis, and sepsis. It is treated by taking antibiotics.
