Listeria Symptoms

Listeria infection is called listeriosis. It is caused by the bacteria called Listeria monocytogenes. This bacteria commonly survives in unpasteurized dairy products, melons, and raw vegetables. Thus, listeriosis occurs due to eating contaminated foods. The common symptoms of listeriosis are fever, nausea, diarrhea, and muscle cramps. In severe cases, they cause confusion, convulsions, changes in alertness, bacterial meningitis, endocarditis, and sepsis. It is treated by taking antibiotics.
