MC1R gene, also called melanocortin 1 receptor or melanocyte-stimulating hormone receptor (MSHR), is one of the main protein that regulates our skin and hair color. It is present in the melanocytes, which are cells that produce the pigment melanin. It controls the type of melanin that is produced.
