Common "Heavy Breathing" queries answered by top doctors | iCliniq

Heavy Breathing

Heavy breathing while exercise, running, walking upstairs, etc., is physiology. The body's oxygen requirement increases with such activities. A normal oxygen saturation level is between 95% to 99%. But if heavy breathing is present at rest, it is a matter of concern and requires medical help. This can be due to a stuffy nose, sinusitis, asthma, anaphylaxis, anxiety, respiratory infections, obesity, heart diseases, lung diseases, COVID-19, etc. In severe heavy breathing, oxygen supplementation is given. Treatment of the underlying condition or cause brings back a normal breathing pattern.
