Panniculitis

Panniculitis is a term for a group of diseases that cause the formation of painful or tender bumps under the skin on the legs, feet, face, arms, chest, and buttocks. The bumps often create inflammation in the fat layer under the skin called the subcutaneous fat layer. Panniculitis occurs due to various bacterial or viral infections, inflammatory diseases, injuries, medications, or external stimuli. Medications to treat this condition involve nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, potassium iodide, and steroid drugs to relieve the symptoms.
