Rickettsia

Rickettsia belongs to the Rickettsiaceae family. These are parasites of arthropods like mites, fleas, ticks, and lice and are transmitted to humans through arthropod carriers. These cause typhus fevers in humans like rocky mountain spotted fever, rickettsialpox, boutonneuse fever, murine typhus, scrub typhus, etc. Symptoms vary with each type of disease, but common symptoms remain fever, headache, fatigue, rash, and unwell feeling. Doxycycline is the drug of choice. Rehydration is necessary to correct electrolyte imbalances.
