Scattered Lymphoid Tissues

Scattered lymphoid tissues or mucosa-associated lymphoid tissues (MALT) are scattered along the mucosal lining in humans. These lymphoid tissues are found in the gastrointestinal tract, pharynx, thyroid gland, breasts, salivary glands, the eyes, and the skin. Scattered lymphoid tissues comprises of 50 % of all the lymphoid tissues in the body and they are responsible for immune response in the mucous membranes.
